Our Passion

Why does Stillpoint Family Resources operate this program and do so much for the special needs families of Simi Valley? It began with John Michael.

Become a Part of Us

Our weekly sessions are open to all special needs families in the area. Become a part of a community of families with a common goal of nurturing our loved one.

Share it Forward

Are you too far to join us but wish you could? We are ready and eager to help you begin a program just like ours  but in your community.

Our Vision

A culture committed to being good and doing good, for the Good

Our Mission

Believing in the power of Goodness, we teach, form, and encourage ordinary women, men and children to be extraordinary, changing lives, strengthening families, and shaping culture with a particular commitment to the special needs community.

Our Unique Approach

We support both special needs people and their parents or caregivers.

Our young adults are able to enjoy a wide variety of activities while their parents and caregivers are given the opportunity to join a support group for social, emotional, and spiritual care and community.

So, the entire family system is both encouraged and strengthened.

The Passion Behind Stillpoint

Dr. Ross Porter and his wife Jennifer founded Stillpoint Family Resources in 1998, as an offering of gratitude for the gift of their son John Michael, who is blessed with Down syndrome. Stillpoint has, from the beginning, been about changing lives, strengthening families, and shaping culture by offering enrichment programs and educational materials (workshops, seminars, blogs, and books) that celebrate life in all its beautiful diversity.

Professors of Love

Enrichment Program for Special Young Adults

Stillpoint is acutely aware of the need for enrichment opportunities for our special young adults who have termed out of the educational system—experiences that help our ‘professors of love’ grow in mind, body, and spirit.

Typically their day program will end mid-afternoon, and they’re dropped off at their homes to wait until the next morning to be able to engage with the creative world.

But we believe they deserve opportunities to build new friendships and find meaning and purpose as much as their typically developing peers.

So, we’ve established our Professors of Love Enrichment Program, where our special young adults can gather to socialize and create in a safe and stimulating environment. Our specially trained staff will facilitate social skills training, as well as unique opportunities to create new experiences with art, food, music, and physical fitness.

And of course there will be snacks, because we believe in the power of table fellowship!

We are presently located in the West San Fernando Valley, but plan to open several other sites in the not-too-distant future, so as to make our services more easily accessible.

If you would like to know more about how we’re celebrating, encouraging, and empowering special needs young adults in our community, please let us know. We’d love to talk and listen.

Support Our Work

Supplies and transportation arrangements are among the various expenses we incur to run our program. There are few funding sources to reach out to in support of these programs. If you like what we are doing and wish to support us, there are numerous ways to help. Visit our Giving page to learn how you can contribute.

Start Your Own Enrichment Program

Use our handy form at the bottom of this page to contact us. We want to see more programs like ours around the state and maybe even around the country. While we plan to start more programs in the not-too-distant future in the general area around the San Fernando Valley, we’d be very happy to talk with you and share our experiences with the program we run.
